Can I really become an RN with an online nursing degree?

How does the program work?
Generally you can complete all the non clinical portions on the internet. Obviously, you are not allowed to complete your clinical requirements on the internet, so they are done at a medical facility located close to your home.
How do the classes work?
Although they may vary, most online programs are hosted on a website. Your instructor will post lecture material and your assignments on the site. There are usually discussion boards and forums where you can post your comments or questions, and interact with other students. Your instructor may set up a required virtual discussion, but other than that you can just log in and work at your convenience. Your assignments are sent to the instructor by e-mail. In some classes, your written work will take the place of the traditional type of tests. If not, your tests will usually be taken on the computer.
Can I work at my own pace?
Some online classes allow you to complete your course work at your own pace. There are some programs that are more affiliated with a traditional university that require you to keep the same quarter or semester schedule as the on campus students. Can I get credit for my work experience?
If you want to get credit for your work experience you have a couple of options, depending on the requirements of the school you are attending. Many programs will allow you to complete the CLEP (college level examination program) or the PEP (proficiency examination program in place of class work in the area that you have work experience in. Some will also allow you to use your portfolio that lists your experience for college credit.
