GMAT Test Prep and What You Need to Know!

The Graduate Management Admission Test, also known as the GMAT is a standardized exam designed by the Graduate Management Admission Council to measure the aptitude and skills for those wishing to enroll in business school at a university to obtain their MBA. It is used to help business schools in making admissions decisions.

It has been developed to assess the skills a student has acquired through high school and college courses. If you are planning to attend a business school you need to realize that most business graduate programs do require this to be considered for admission. That is why it is so important for you to understand the process and to have thorough GMAT test preparation.

GMAT tests are given in English only, and it examines analytical writing, quantitative, and verbal skills. In the United States, it is computer-based and it is offered at different worldwide centers at several times throughout the year. The first part of the exam is the Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA). This consists of two different writing tasks. The first is your analysis of a specific issue, and the next task is your analysis of an argument. The Writing Assessment is always found at the beginning, and you are given 30 minutes to complete each task.

When preparing for the GMAT test practice your quantitative skills because the second section checks your knowledge of arithmetic, elementary algebra, and common geometry with questions on data sufficiency and problem solving. There are thirty seven multiple choice questions in this section, and you have 75 minutes to complete this part.

The last part is the verbal section. This has forty one multiple choice questions, and this assesses your reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and your ability to correct sentences. You have seventy five minutes to complete this section. Your are scored on how many of the questions you answer correctly, so be sure complete the entire test to the best of your ability.

It is easy to see that proper GMAT preparation is quite important in achieving a high score. A lot of people end up spending a high price for preparation packages. There are also many other resources available to help you to improve your skills.

If after taking the test, you are not satisfied with your score you can retake it, but you can only take it one time each month. All of your scores are sent to the university programs to which you are applying. Since your score on this examination is a major criteria in the admissions process don't take the test until you are ready.
